It’s never too late for Bunnies!

It’s still Halloween in the wild, wild west and since it’s late, I present to you the entire spooky collection of hare raising re-enactments.

Oh boy, that was lame, wasn’t it?

If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been taking some time off after a very rough busy season. I needed to take some time to reconsider my chosen career. Busy season did a number on me and I was left wondering if this is really what I want to be when I grow up. I haven’t made a decision yet, but I’m leaning in one direction.

Anyway, I’ve been traveling a lot. I just returned from the right coast this afternoon. I’m no fan of the TSA - I would be if those weenies could ever get underwire figured out. Anyway, I saw this and I had to laugh. As I was unloading my quart size baggie containing lethal amounts of lip gloss and contact lense drops, my boots, my laptop, my inhaler, my briefcase and my handbag, I happened to look over at the TSA guy directing passenger traffic. As he was confiscating liquid items over 3 oz or not in baggies….he was throwing them all in the same bin.

I laughed. I laughed a good belly laugh that brought tears to my eyes. As a nation we’re told we’re safer because the TSA is on high alert for dangerous chemical explosives. So dangerous passengers are told they need to be inconvenienced and restricted in the name of national sercurity. This TSA agent determined the various items weren’t dangerous, otherwise he wouldn’t have thrown them in the same bin together. Yet these items didn’t fit the government’s requirements so they had to be disposed of. Now isn’t that just the summation of most government activities?

In full disclosure - I read Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged for the first time this weekend. Maybe that had an influence on my mood and my amusement.

Today is the 125th anniversary of the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. For those of you whose only reference to the Gunfight is Hollywood - let me tell you, the O.K. Corral looks nothing like it did in Tombstone or Wyatt Earp.

If you ever find yourself in Tucson with some time to spare, I highly recommend a trip to Tombstone. The O.K. Corral and the Boot Hill Graveyard are must see’s.

This made me chuckle.

A Mexican man who worked at a Spanish-language radio station in Tucson as a disc jockey and program manager was detained by immigration authorities and expected to be deported because he was in the country illegally, authorities said Friday.

Taking a somewhat public position while here illegally isn’t the smartest thing to do.

SCOTUS smacked down the 9th Circuit again - this time over turning the stay on Arizona’s photo ID rules for the November 7th election.

“The facts in these cases are hotly contested and ‘no bright line separates permissible election-related regulation from unconstitutional infringements,’ ” the Justices wrote. “Given the imminence of the election and the inadequate time to resolve the factual disputes, our action today shall of necessity allow the election to proceed without an injunction suspending the voter identification rules.”

And I’m outta here!

The last busy season of 2006 is over! Thank all that is good and holy. I survived weeks of 16 hour days, militant copy machines and really bad coffee. It’s time for a drink.

Or five.

Regular, issue oriented, intelligent and sassy commentary to continue tomorrow. (Yes I was referring to this blog, thankyouverymuch.)

This article appeared in the paper this morning.

Kuhne was in a tandem jump with a skydiving student when their parachute got tangled and sent them plummeting to the ground, Spisz said.

The male student escaped from the accident with minor scrapes, but Kuhne bore the brunt of the injuries, he said.

Gave me pause, but I’m still going to do it.

Got anything going on Saturday, November 4th around 12:30pm?

I do. I’ll be jumping out of a plane at 13,000 feet, plummeting to the Earth at 200 feet per second.

Care to join me?

Then I’ll be sedated. I’m thinking margaritas. Four should probably do it.

I’ve two more returns (plus my own 6 or 7) and I’m finished with this awful filing season.

Once I get some rest, I should re-evaluate whether I want this as my chosen profession for the rest of my life. I think it’s time I eliminate #53 from The List.

This has by far been the toughest filing season of my career. Things have gone wrong left and right, and I’ve about reached my limit. I’m getting too old for this crap.

First, data for the tax return I mentioned below went missing. And not just missing from my office, missing from the entity that supplied the data. Was like my company never existed.

Next, the high speed printer/copier in the office died in the middle of printing my 8,000+ page return. Twice. During the four or five hours I was home at night, I printed out chunks of the return on my home laser printer.

Oh, did I mention I accidentally deleted said tax return file from the server, and it had to be restored from a back up? Only lost a morning’s worth of work, but at this critical time, every second counts. The higher ups were none too pleased.

Third, I get about halfway through preparing all the returns for the 25 partners, only to find out that the big return missed something and had to be run again. Which means all the partners’ I’d finished had to be run again too.

Fourth, last Saturday night I was locked in our underground parking garage for over an hour. Apparently my key card decided to stop working sometime between 7am when I arrived and 9:30pm when I left. Thankfully, the disturbingly creepy security guy decided to come and let me out.

And just now - I look down at my left hand, and one of the diamonds has fallen out of my engagement ring. It’s nowhere to be found. It’s only an accent stone and not the solitaire, but still. The Husband is going to skin me alive when he finds out.

I never should have tempted fate yesterday when I flippantly asked - “What else could go wrong?”. Learned my lesson, I won’t be doing that ever again.
