This has by far been the toughest filing season of my career. Things have gone wrong left and right, and I’ve about reached my limit. I’m getting too old for this crap.

First, data for the tax return I mentioned below went missing. And not just missing from my office, missing from the entity that supplied the data. Was like my company never existed.

Next, the high speed printer/copier in the office died in the middle of printing my 8,000+ page return. Twice. During the four or five hours I was home at night, I printed out chunks of the return on my home laser printer.

Oh, did I mention I accidentally deleted said tax return file from the server, and it had to be restored from a back up? Only lost a morning’s worth of work, but at this critical time, every second counts. The higher ups were none too pleased.

Third, I get about halfway through preparing all the returns for the 25 partners, only to find out that the big return missed something and had to be run again. Which means all the partners’ I’d finished had to be run again too.

Fourth, last Saturday night I was locked in our underground parking garage for over an hour. Apparently my key card decided to stop working sometime between 7am when I arrived and 9:30pm when I left. Thankfully, the disturbingly creepy security guy decided to come and let me out.

And just now - I look down at my left hand, and one of the diamonds has fallen out of my engagement ring. It’s nowhere to be found. It’s only an accent stone and not the solitaire, but still. The Husband is going to skin me alive when he finds out.

I never should have tempted fate yesterday when I flippantly asked - “What else could go wrong?”. Learned my lesson, I won’t be doing that ever again.

Some days, it doesn’t pay to get out of bed. If you are like me, you can use the extra sleep anyway!

Hey, look at the bright side. If the higher ups fire you, you’ll have more time to blog and look for your stone!

You make an excellent point Kevin. Though the building engineer to the sink in the ladies room apart last night, and found my diamond. That means it would just leave me with more time to blog. Don’t know if I mean that as a warning or what.:P

[…] This filing season was uneventful compared to the others I’ve had. There were no printer mishaps or deleted files, no lost engagement rings. I didn’t get locked in the parking garage late one Saturday night. We did have an associate go to another firm last month, but we managed. The hours were still long, but we managed. […]
