I need a change of pace. I can’t talk about finance and economics my entire waking day, every day. I’m getting burned out. So I want to stir things up a bit, talk about something totally different.

Inspired by this story, I’d like to ask…..

Why is prostitution illegal?

(Copied from my comment below.)

I have sex with someone and it’s all good.

I have sex with someone and he (or she, I don’t judge) leaves me $500 for my time and talent all of a sudden we’re criminals?

Very same act, only difference is cash changed hands. Why does the exchange of cash make a criminal?

Discuss.

My expensive all-girl school said it was because men wanted to oppress women. But then again, that was the answer to every question.

And why does the exchange of dinner, dancing, and maybe a little jewelry instead of cash make it acceptable? It’s very frustrating to me. It really shouldn’t matter at all.

This nation was started by a group of people for whom the Church of England just wasn’t strict and repressive enough. In all seriousness, I’m guessing once upon a time someone figured making it illegal would minimize it and therefore help protect women from being forced into prostitution. I’m all for legalization if it drives prices down.
